John Makiaris: East Lyme Public Library
During his tenure on the board, Mr. Makiaris served as both president and treasurer. Outside auditors noted the financial records were meticulously maintained. And his effective management and budgeting skills during his years as president were marked by growth of library membership and significant increase in library collections. His commitment greatly enhanced the ability of the East Lyme library to better serve the community.
Joan Edgerly: Meriden Public Library
Her gifts of time, talent and treasure have contributed to making the Meriden Public Library great. Since joining the board in 1980, she has devoted countless hours to library governance. Her MLS degree gives her insights into staff needs, including an emphasis on continuing education for staff and trustees. Over the years Ms. Edgerly has used every occasion, happy, sad and mundane to contribute to the library, and encourages others to do the same.
Suzanne Hill Canning: Mystic and Noank Library
With only 50% of its funds coming from tax dollars, Mystic and Noank Library relies on fund raising. As chair of the Development Committee Ms. Canning has increased the visibility of the library in the community. Her annual gala event nets more than 25% of the funds raised through our annual appeal. As a result of her efforts she has made the library and each gala a popular community activity, a go-to event in Mystic.
Charmaine Glew: Simsbury Public Library

Ms. Glew is a long time trustee and past president of the Simsbury board. She played an integral part in the design of the building as well as the landscaping. And made a generous contribution to the building fund. As president, she guided the completion of the strategic plan as well as a technology plan. She was also chair of the Friends book sale for 20 years.
Linda Dunakin: West Hartford Libraries
Volunteering to serve on the board of the West Hartford Libraries is a 5 year commitment in addition to serving on the library foundation. Ms. Dunakin has served for 12 years, during which the main library was expanded and renovated and enlarged in the Blue Back Square area, and one branch was renovated. The Foundation was reoriented from merely accepting donations to active solicitation. She also participated in the hiring of a new director.
